Promotions with a Smile

Smiling Cross dba Smile Promotions is an Indiana Based privately owned and operated company certified as a Minority Women Business Enterprise by the NMSDC. 

The parent company of Smile Promotions (SP), Smiling Cross, Inc. (SCI) was incorporated in September of 2003. The smiling cross design was inspired and created by Jasmina, the owner’s daughter, only nine years old at the time. Shortly thereafter the smiling cross became a registered trademark and was used to brand inspirational gift and apparel products targeted for the wholesale Christian gift market. The Smiling Cross line of products was introduced in 2005 and put into distribution. Smiling Cross grew quickly to 255 locations across the United States, and soon after reached the United Kingdom.
It was quickly realized that Smiling Cross had the opportunity to use its current operational base, both suppliers and graphic design team, to reach a wider market of clients. In 2006, the Smile Promotions division was created to capitalize on the current operational base of SCI, while serving the secular, business-to-business market. The mission for Smile Promotions was to become the “supplier of choice” for promotional product solutions. By April of 2007 the company was certified by the state of Indiana as a Minority and Women’s Business Enterprise.
The abbreviated history below highlights the major execution points of our company strategy for business development in the target market segments of education and health care:

 In June of 2007 SCI/SP became an official licensee of Indiana University. Shortly thereafter SP was one of a handful of promotional product suppliers awarded “Preferred Supplier” status with IU, and secured a five year contract.
 The following year in June of 2008 SP became an official licensee of Purdue University serving all campuses.
 In 2009 SP was awarded “e-Store Supplier” status and five year contract with Ohio State University (OSU) and Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC). SP proceeded to build a web store for OSU that funneled desirable SP products to a private, electronic marketplace accessible to only OSU employees and staff. The e-Store was a solution specific to OSU and works in conjunction with purchasing software utilized by the university.
 In January of 2010, SP becomes an official licensee of Ball State University.
 In August of 2010, SP becomes certified with the Indiana Minority Supplier Development Council (IMSDC). 
 In October of 2010, SP reciprocates its certification with the Ohio South Central Minority Supplier Development Council. 
 In May of 2011, SP was awarded “Preferred Supplier” Status with University of Cincinnati and became an official Licensee in April of 2012.
 In March of 2012, the 5 year contract with Indiana University was renewed for another 5 years. 
 In February of 2013, SP becomes an official licensee of Butler University and Ivy Tech.  

In early 2009, the company decided to pursue Smile Promotions with full focus, as this division was growing rapidly. Smiling Cross remains operational, but due to the economics of the current retail market, will not be producing new lines or pursuing new business. SP continues to grow rapidly despite the general market conditions, and as of September 2015, sales are up nearly 40% compared to the same time last year. We remain committed to our vision, mission, team and strategy, and are optimistic as we look to the future for SCI/SP.
